Amino acid
So what groups are available when proteins are being made? The simplest amino acid, glycine, has no substituents except hydrogen and is the only amino acid that is not chiral. Four other amino acids have alkyl groups without further functionality. The next table gives their structures together with two abbreviations widely used for them. The three-letter code (which has nothing to do with the codon in DNA!) is almost selfexplanatory as are the oneletter codes in this group, but some of the one-letter codes for the other amino acids are not so obvious.
Aliphatic Amino acid:
Alpha Amino acid |
All are alpha- Amino acids attached with amino group. Amino groups are attached with Alpha- Carbon, that why this types of Amino acids are called Aliphatic Amino acid.
Aromatic Amino acids:
Aromatric Amino acids |
This types of Amino acids are attached with aromatic ring.
e.g: Tryptophan (Try) attached with Indole aromatic ring.
Amino acids attached with -OH group:-
Amino acid with-s-group:
Amino acid with s group structures |
Acidic Amino acid:
Acidic amino acids |
This types of Amino acids are more acidic compered to all Amino acids. Due to -COOH group are attached with Amino acids, which is increased the acidic nature in this types of Amino acids.
NOTE:
- All Amino acids have chiral centre exception of Glycine. In Glycine have achiral center present.
- All Amino acids are S- configuration exceptional Cysteine .
- In this Amino acids molecules have present Amino and Acidic group, they are existing +be changes and -ve charges. Therefore ,in the one amino acid molecule have +ve and -ve charges. This types of molecules are called zwitterions.
- Zwitterions are highly soluble in water.
